The Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB)

Research for the future of our freshwaters

The Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) is located on the shore of Lake Müggelsee in Berlin.

The Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) is a creative, lively and diverse place for research and teaching. At our locations in Berlin and Neuglobsow, scientists from very different disciplines work under one roof. Hydrologists, chemists, physicists, microbiologists, limnologists, fish ecologists and fisheries biologists from all over the world study the fundamental processes in rivers, lakes and wetlands and jointly develop measures for sustainable water management. In doing so, we think beyond disciplines and spatial boundaries, because solutions for the future challenges can only be developed with integrative research approaches.
